Gavin Gamble, NatureSpot's lead verifier for Ants, has published a paper describing his discovery of a new species of ant for Leicestershire and Rutland, Lasius brunneus.

We will use these funds to support our core work of encouraging more local people to appreciate the wildlife on our doorstep and to help them make a contribution to our biodiversity knowledge locally, vital for effective conservation.

In response to your feedback, we've updated the NatureSpot About Us page, including photos and information about the team.

Join NatureSpot users for a chat about seasonal wildlife in January and find out about lichens, leaf mines, mosses, bugs, spiders, and more. 

When you submit records to NatureSpot, please: 
1. Add a location name which starts with the nearest town/village name (unless it is a well-known site such as a park). 
2. Leave the "Identified by" field blank unless the species was identified by a known expert, in which case add their name.
