Wingspan 21 to 24 mm. One of the larger species of the genus Ypsolopha, a distinct dark spot on the creamy forewing is the most obvious feature.

It inhabits mainly woodland habitat.

It flies during July and August.

The larvae feed on Honeysuckle.

Distributed locally across most of Britain, except some parts of Scotland. In the Butterfly Conservation’s Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as local.

It appears to be uncommon in Leicestershire and Rutland, where there are few records. L&R Moth Group status = D (rare or rarely recorded).
