Rhododendron luteum is a bushy medium-sized shrub of open growth, with rather oblong leaves that are 5 to 10 cm long and 2 to 4 cm broad. It has very fragrant bright yellow, funnel-shaped flowers to 5 cm in width.

Deciduous shrub.

Fairly widespread in the north and west of Britain.

Uncommon or under recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland. It was not recorded in the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire.
