A tiny (1.8 to 3.2 mm) hairy, brown beetle associated with Clematis species, particularly Traveller's-joy (Clematis vitalba).

Unless identified by a recognised expert, photographic evidence is required and the specimen should be examined with a microscope. In the comments box, state the key or ID method used. Where the host species - Clematis vitalba (and sometimes C. orientalis) occur.

All year round.

Larvae bore into the dead and dying branches of Clematis species.

Widespread in the southern half of Britain, but not well recorded.

Rarely recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland – the February 2021record is believed to be the first confirmed record for VC55 – however this is a tiny species that is only likely to be found when looked for specifically, so may be more common than records suggest.
