This can be a tall plant of 1 metre in height with triangular stems. The inflorescence has a spreading habit. It is patch forming with creeping rhizomes.

Either obtain confirmation from a County Recorder before submitting a record, or submit detailed images showing key features.  We recommend that you take and retain a specimen; the County Recorder may wish to see this for confirmation. 

Wet woodland and stream banks.

Flowering June and July.

Perennial.

Common in southern and central England but less common in Wales and eastern England and northern Scotland.

Near scarce in Leicestershire and Rutland.

It was in 12 out of 617 tetrads in the Flora of Leicestershire (Primavesi & Evans, 1988).

It was listed as 'Scarce' in the 2011 VC55 Rare Plant Register (Jeeves 2011) but is no longer listed on the current VC55 Rare Plant Register (Hall & Woodward, 2022)
