Weigela florida is a spreading shrub that may grow as wide as it is tall. It produces a mass of funnel to bell shaped flowers which may vary from pale pink to dark red as there are many cultivars. The leaves are simple, ovate and toothed.

This is a cultivated plant that sometimes escapes and thrives for a time in the wild.

Flowers in May and June.

Deciduous perennial shrub.

There are just a scattering of records for this plant in the wild, mainly from the north and west of Britain.

Rare outside of cultivation in Leicestershire and Rutland. It was first recorded in Leicestershire in 1999.
