A very small, brown beetle measuring just 2.75 mm. It is the commonest of the Throscidae beetles, which are closely related to the more familiar Click Beetles (Elateridae).

Favours woodland and well wooded areas.

May to August.

The larvae develop in wood.

Widespread in the southern half of Britain, less well recorded further north.

Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland. There were approximately 35 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
