Thallus white to pale or blueish or pinkish grey, continuous or somewhat cracked. The apothecia are small and red-brown when swollen and wet but black when dry.

Reacts red to bleach (C).

On siliceous rocks, brick and stonework.

All year round.

Widespread and locally frequent in Britain.

Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
