A medium-sized orange-brown or brick-red milkcap, getting paler as it ages; cap initially convex, expanding and eventually developing a central depression.  Decurrent gills.  Milk white, unchanging.  Smells strongly of bugs or rubber.  Taste mild to slightly acrid.  

L aurantiacus has adnate gills.

Broadleaved woodland, often under oaks, limes, hornbeams or beeches

August to November in Britain and Ireland.

Widespread and fairly frequent in broadleaf woodlands throughout Britain.

Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
