The cap is tawny orange with a paler area around the edge of the cap which, when mature is flat but with a small umbo. Cap is neatly striated. The gills are white, free and crowded. Stipe is more or less smooth; white or yellowish-brown. There is no ring, but at the base of the stipe there is a large white volva.
