Sulphur Tuft

Sulphur Tuft - Hypholoma fasciculare

Description

A yellow-brown to sulphur yellow mushroom growing in clusters on stumps and logs.  The gills are sulphur yellow with a greenish tint, maturing to purple-black.  

Similar Species

Hypholoma capnoides (Conifer Tuft) has pale grey gills without a greenish tint.

Stumps and logs of both deciduous and coniferous trees

When to see it

Mainly late summer and autumn.

Widespread and abundant (Kibby, Vol. 3, 2021)

VC55 Status

Very common in Leicestershire and Rutland.
