Approximately 5 mm in length.  This has an orange-brown thorax and darker brown abdomen. It has clear wings that have costal spines along the leading edge (these spines are characterisitic of the family).

• Antennae yellow not dark brown
• Scutellum largely bare (a few dark hairs near the margins)
• Scutum shiny
• Costal spines ~1.5x width of costa
• No long posterior hairs on male mid basitarsus.

Associated with woodland fungi.

Late summer and autumn is a good time to see this species.

Widespread in Britain.

Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
