The orange-brown or yellowish discs are embedded in the substrate, with a star-shaped lobes opening out on the surface of the host plant.  The margins are white and mealy.

A wide range of hosts, including  herbaceous plants such as Great Willowherb, Wild Angelica, Japanese Knotweed, Common Nettle and Hemp-agrimony; also bark, needles, etc..

They fruit from autumn to spring.
