5-7mm. The abdomen lacks raised ridges and is mainly cylindrical. The body is all black with yellow legs that have black 'knees'. The first segment of the antennae are black.

Various habitats, it can be found in both wet and dry locations.

Frequent and widespread in Britain.

Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland. There were a total of 46 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
