This species of Lesser Dung Fly has a characteristic hooked spine that arches under the base tarsal segment of the hind leg. Males have noticeably swollen hind femora.

Often found around dung and decomposing plant matter, especially horse dung.

Spring to autumn.

It seems to be widespread in Britain.

Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
