Wingspan 23 to 28 mm. A highly distinctive, day-flying species.

It inhabits woodland and scrubland.

The moth is on the wing in May and June.

The larvae feed mainly on Wood Sage.

Reasonably common in the south of England and Wales, as well as Ireland. It occurs more sporadically further north into Scotland.

Very rare or possibly extinct in Leicestershire and Rutland with no recent confirmed records.
