The leaves are stalked, often asymmetrical at their base, narrow, smooth and bright shiny green above with 7 to 12 pairs of lateral veins.

Widespread in the Midlands and south eastern England, but less well recorded elsewhere in Britain.

Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland. In the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire it was found in 346 of the 617 tetrads.
