Wingspan 27-32 mm. Has an attractive patterning of pinks, oranges and browns.

Occupying woodland, parkland and suburban habitats.

The adults fly in June and July, sometimes with a later generation in August and September. The species is readily attracted to light.

The caterpillars feed at night on Bracken and other ferns, as well as a number of low plants and trees.

Common and widespread over most of the British Isles. In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as common.

Fairly common in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = A (common and resident)
