Length 3 to 6 mm. This weevil is noticeably bristly. It usually has a golden coppery or greenish metallic appearance when fresh, but when the scales rub off it appears much blacker.

Where clover is abundant.

Fresh adults appear in mid to late summer and overwinter.

Associated with clover, the larvae feeding on the root nodule.

Common and widespread in England and Wales, less so in Scotland.

Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland.
