A large, orange-brown hairy annual bracket associatd wth Ash, flattened or hoof-shaped, with 2 - 4 pores per mm.on the yellowish-brown fertile surface. Fruitbodies soemtimes exude reddish droplets.  Old specimens become black and ragged and usually stay on the tree over winter, eventually falling to the ground where they may remain for a considerable time.

On standing trees, typically ash but may be found on Apple and a variety of other deciduous trees, causing central rot. 

Fairly common in Leicestershire and Rutland.
