This is one of several rather similar looking small greyish white waxflies. Expert help should be sought when identifying these species and detailed examination of the specimen is usually necessary.

It is associated with oak, and as an adult, also with pine however it still shows a preference for open habitats and sunny, but not too dry conditions.

Summer and autumn.

It is fairly widespread but local in England. It is curiously absent from Wales and Ireland and very rare in Scotland.

Rare or under recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland - the specimen taken at Sapcote on 16th June 2014 is believed to be the first record for VC55.
