About 3mm in length, very rounded like a very small black ladybird. The legs are paler than the almost black body and the first segments of the antennae are pale.

Reed fringed pools and marshes.

Peak time is June to September.

Widespread in the southern half of Britain.

Occasional in Leicestershire and Rutland. There were approximately 13 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
