Cap 10 to 15 cm. A distinctive fungus with a deep cherry red cap and yellowy white gills.

Often beneath Oak trees. Favouring clay soils and particularly associated with Oak.

Autumn

Although it has been found over much of Britain it is most frequent in the south.

Occasional in Leicestershire and Rutland.
