Length 1.5 to 2 mm. Brownish-black with yellow-brown legs. Male carapace raised in a highly characteristic projection bearing a tuft of hairs. 

Tibial spines 2-2-1-1; TmIV no; TmI 0.47-0.53. Structure of adult genitalia characteristic. 

Confirmation of this species requires examination of the genitalia of mature specimens. 

Found in a variety of situations and habitats such as grassland, leaf litter, moss, bushes and on low vegetation and bushes.

Year round with peaks in spring and autumn. 

Widespread and fairly frequent throughout Britain.

Widespread and fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland.
