Wingspan 14 to 15 mm. A distinctive pied species.

Areas where the larval foodplants are plentiful.

Flying in June and July, the adults can be attracted to light, and can also be obtained by beating the foodplant in suitable localities.

The larva feeds between two spun leaves of hawthorn or apple.

Local, but occurs widely throughout England, and also in North Wales. In the Butterfly Conservation's Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as local.

It appears to be uncommon in Leicestershire and Rutland, where there are few records. L&R Moth Group status = D (rare or rarely recorded).
