The Raven is our largest member of the crow family and is about the same size as a Buzzard or about half as big again as a Carrion Crow. Like the Carrion Crow, the Raven is completely black. It has a large bill and long wings. In flight, it shows a diamond-shaped tail. Often gives its presence away by its deep croaking call. Predominantly a carrion feeder with a wide and varied diet.

Common in upland moorland as well as coastal and inland cliffs and isolated clumps of trees but now found almost anywhere

All year round.

Resident breeder - 12,000 pairs. Has extended it range in recent years from the west and the north into much of lowland Britain

Scarce resident, but increasing.
