Wingspan 15-18 mm. This species closely resembles H. nubiferana but can be distinguished by the difference in position of the two blackish dots on the white of the forewing.

Woodland, hedgerows and gardens.

The adults fly from late May to July.

The larvae feed on various forms of Prunus including Blackthorn and Plum.

Fairly common throughout most of Britain. In the Butterfly Conservation’s Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as common.

Quite common in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = A (common and resident)
