A small, foliose species, typically 1 to 2 cm in diameter, with narrow, convex lobes lacking marginal cilia, lobe surfaces pale grey with distinct white flecks.

It is commonly confused with Phaeophyscia orbicularis as they are found in similar situations, but Phaeophyscia has a darker grey thallus and has smooth lobes without any white flecks.

On walls, wood and tarmac in urban as well as rural areas, and is also found in upland regions.

All year round.
