Description
A pale grey foliose lichen composed of narrow, flattened branches where the lobe ends become inflated and hood-shaped.
Similar Species
Physcia tenella grows in very similar places but lacks the 'hoods'.
Habitat
Can be found tightly attached to the bark and upper surface of the branches of various plants in nitrogen rich soils.
When to see it
All year round.
Life History
An indicator of high nitrogen levels.
UK Status
Widespread and common throughout Britain.
VC55 Status
Very common in Leicestershire and Rutland.
