Wingspan 7 to 8 mm. In common with other Acer-feeding Phyllonorycters, this species is mostly white with yellowish or brownish markings edged black.  The larva mines the leaves of Norway Maple, creating a large tentiform mine.

In areas where the larval foodplant Norway Maple is present.

May and August are the flight periods for the two generations of adults.

The foodplant is Norway maple (Acer platanoides).

The species is commonest in south-east England, but is expanding northwards and has recently been found as far north as Yorkshire. In the Butterfly Conservation's Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as common.

It appears to be uncommon in Leicestershire and Rutland, where there are few records (though it may be on the increase). L&R Moth Group status = D (rare or rarely recorded).
