Wingspan 16-20 mm. It is noticeable for a number of 'tufts'.

When to see it

It is on the wing during May and June and flies around dusk.

Life History

During the day it relies on camouflage, taking on the appearance of a bird-dropping. The larvae feed on White Bryony.

UK Status

Distributed mainly in southern England becoming scarcer further north into the Midlands. In the Butterfly Conservation’s Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as common.

VC55 Status

Occasional in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = C (very scarce resident or rare migrant)
