Adults are 8 to 11 mm long. They are black in colour with a green metallic sheen on the elytra which are are profusely pitted. A distinctive feature of this species is that the underside of the first antennal segment is yellow, contrasting with the black upperside.

Often found in semi-natural habitats with damp soils, such as open woodland and heath grassland.

All year peaking in spring and summer.

Common and widespread in Britain.

Fairly common in Leicestershire and Rutland.
