The thallus is variable in colour, from pale grey to almost black, and when wet paler specimens can be vivid green. It has orbicular growth, up to 3cm. The lobes are long and palmately divided at the tips. Soralia often form a darker centre and can be green to black in colour.

On bark, walls, wood and concrete.

All year round.

An indicator of nitrogen enrichment.

Common and widespread in Britain.

Common in Leicestershire and Rutland.
