The basic petunia flower is funnel shaped but due to cultivation there are numerous varieties including double flowered forms and others with petals that have fringed margins. There are also numerous colour varieties and even some with variegated foliage.

Often grown in hanging baskets and garden borders, this plant occasionally escapes into the wild but will usually only survive for one season.

Flowering June to October.

Usually grown as an annual in Britain.

Widespread but occasional as an escape from cultivation in England and Wales.

Uncommon or under recorded as a garden escape in Leicestershire and Rutland. It was not recorded in the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire.
