Length 5 to 6 mm. The groundbug Peritrechus nubilus has the 3rd antennal segment thinner than the 1st and the pronotum is square-sided. The markings on the upper surface are quite bright and there is usually a prominent pale spot at the base of the membrane. Hind tibiae are dark.

Appears to be rather local. Recorded from a variety of habitats across southern and eastern England.

Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
