Cap 2 to 4 cm. Initially green, the bell-shaped cap expands and turns yellow, sometimes with an orange tinge and often having a very slimy surface.  The green colour washes off and older specimens are often yellow or pinkish, but a green tinge is usually retained under the cap.  The thick, waxy gills are distant and only partly attached to the stalk (stipe). The stipe is also yellow tinged green near to the cap. Spore print white. Spores ellipsoidal to ovoid, smooth, 7.5-9.5 x 4-6µm, with a large apical pore.

August to November.

Fairly frequent and widespread in Britain.

Frequent in suitable habitats in Leicestershire and Rutland.
