Length 2.0-2.6 mm. Small Flower Bug, sometimes called a Pirate Bug. Body more or less parallel, somewhat wider at abdomen in female. Head, pronotum, and scutellum dark brown or blackish; hemelytra yellowish brown, more rarely darker at cuneus. Head with a few long bristles and an even pubescence, sometimes rather dense in female. Antennae segments 1, 3, and 4 brownish, segment 2 somewhat paler.

Detailed examination of the specimen is needed to identify this species. A photograph alone is not sufficient because key features are not obvious and there are one or more similar species.

Feeds on a wide variety of insect and mite species as well as pollen.

Fairly common throughout Britain.

Fairly common in Leicestershire and Rutland.
