Orange Mosscap - Rickenella fibula

Description

This is a small orange fungus, the cap usually measuring less than 1 cm in diameter. The gills are quite widely spaced and run down the stem for a short distance. Spore print white. 

Similar Species

Other small orange fungi occur in mossy grassland.

Habitat

It grows amongst moss.

Autumn.

Widespread and quite frequent throughout Britain.

VC55 Status

Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland.
