A large mushroom up to 100mm across; orange cap with a paler striate edge, white stipe with snakeskin pattern, and volva at stem-base; as with all grisettes there is no ring.  Occasionally, paler specimens are found.

Tawny Grisette is more subdued in colour, and is smaller
