A vigorous, clump-forming perennial to 1 metre tall with strap-shaped leaves, the outer ones arching outwards and the inner leaves upright. Large numbers of trumpet-shaped, tawny-orange flowers 5-12 cm in diameter, each tepal with a pale central line.

Usually found as an escape, or throw-out from cultivation, and often close to habitation.

Flowers are borne in succession on the flowering stems in summer.

Perennial.

Widespread records in Britain of escapes from cultivation.

Rarely recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland.
