Orange Cup
Orange Cup - Melastiza cornubiensis
A small orange-red cup that soon flattenes to an appressed disc on soil. On the outside of the disc are short appressed dark hairs.
Orange-peel fungus Aleuria aurantia is larger and does not have dark hairs. There are several species of Melastiza, requiring microscopic examination of spores
Photograph in habitat; note substrate. This can be difficult to identify and we recommend that a specimen is examined by an expert before submission to NatureSpot; microscopic examination may be needed
On sandy and gravelly soil and paths.
