A large Leccinum associated with Birch.  The cap is rounded at first, then flattening with a minutely scaly surface; typically bright orange-yellow but may be yellow-brown, whitish, pinkish or apricot (See Kibby, 2017).  The cap has small flaps of tissue overhanging the edge.  The pores are dark initially, then greyish white, discolouring brown if bruised.  The stem is whitish and covered in blackish scales.    

There are several other orange Leccinum, but not associated with Birch.  L aurantiacum is rarely recorded in VC55, under oak or aspen

Photograph a fresh specimen from top down and in side view, and underneath to show pores and full length of stipe.  Note habitat and substrate, and associated tree species. Check for staining on cap, pores and stem base when cut and then bruised.
