A small beetle 2.5 to 3.5 mm long. The brown elytra are usually tipped with red at the ends.

Adults may be found on umbel flowers during hot weather especially near ivy, but can also be found on the leaves of various plants. They sometimes come to light. The species is associated with ivy in its larval stage, and adults can also be displaced by beating ivy covered trees.

Adults found from early May until at least August.

Associated with Ivy, the larvae bore into the stems.

A local insect throughout England, Wales and Scotland, may be common where found.

Occasional in Leicestershire and Rutland. There were a total of 14 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
