A small (2 to 3.5 mm) beetle with reddish-brown elytra and light-brown antennae and legs.

Woodland and other well wooded areas with old or dead wood.

Peak period is May to September but it may be found at any time of the year.

Widespread in the southern half of Britain.

Infrequently recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland.
