Wingspan 16-22 mm. The yellow labial palps of this moth readily distinguish it from several quite similar species.

Gardens and hedgerows.

Flies, mainly at night, from May to July, but can easily be disturbed during the day.

The larvae feed mainly on a variety of wild and cultivated Rose.

It is generally common throughout Britain. In the Butterfly Conservation's Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as common.

Fairly common in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = A (common and resident)
