This is a dark blue-black shiny weevil with a body length of about 3mm. It is covered in short pubescence which on the elytra is uniformly pointed backwards. Legs and antennae are dark brown.It is distinguished from other species in the genus by the presence of a short intercalary puncture row between the bases of puncture rows 9 and 10.

Unless identified by a recognised expert, photographic evidence is required and the specimen should be examined with a microscope. In the comments box, state the key or ID method used. Found in both moist and dry habitats.

Most records for this species come from the southern half of England and around the Welsh coast.

Infrequent in Leicestershire and Rutland. There were only 8 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
