Mycetophila pictula
Mycetophila pictula
Although the fungus gnat Mycetophila pictula has distinctive wing markings it is one of several very similar species and we have to thank local expert John Kramer and National expert Peter Chandler for their hard work in identifying this species for us.
Associated with fungi and has been reared from Poria vaporaria.
We have very little information, but the specimens that we are aware of have been recorded between March and August.
Widespread in England and Wales but its true status is not really known due to lack of recording and difficulty of identification.
Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
