The cap is white or light grey with a yellowish or pinkish tinge or yellow.  The texture is matt or like chamois leather.  The gills are white at first, becoming pink, and deeply decurrent; often forking.  The flesh has a strong mealy odour and taste.

There are several other large white or pale grey funnel shaped fungi of woodland edges or grasslands - e.g. Clitocybe species - some of which are inedible or toxic.
