Mealy Cabbage Aphid - Brevicoryne brassicae
Description
Brevicoryne brassicae apterae are green and wax-powdered. The head, tips of the antennae and the legs are dark. The body length of apterae is 1.9 to 2.7 mm.
Identification difficulty
Habitat
Spends its entire life cycle on Brassicas such as Cabbage and Oil-seed Rape.
When to see it
Most readily seen in summer on Brassica crops such as Oil-seed Rape.
Life History
In cold climates it overwinters as eggs, but where winters are mild Brevicoryne brassicae overwinters parthenogenetically.
UK Status
Probably fairly frequent in Britain although there are very few records on NBN for the species.
VC55 Status
Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
