Wingspan 33 to 38 mm.

The species inhabits oak woodland

Flies in May and June, when it is attracted to light.

The caterpillar feeds on the leaves of oak.

Occurring widely in much of Britain, it is most frequently encountered in the southern half. In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as local.

Fairly frequent but not common in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = B (scarce resident or restricted distribution or regular migrant).
